Transaction
  • And you get a downloaded transaction that should match to it, but for whatever reason instead of matching it, you just delete the downloaded transaction. That would set you up for having a transaction in the register that Quicken will keep trying to match new downloaded transactions to.
  • The Online Center Balances tab shows the subaccount balances as they are downloaded from Wells Fargo Advisors. Quicken does not distinguish between cash and margin subaccounts. If you have a margin balance, the investment transaction list displays it as a negative cash balance. One date Quicken tracks one date per transaction.

As I've mentioned in my Quicken reviews, I've been a long-time user of the accounting software. In fact, I've been using Quicken since it was a Microsoft MS-DOS product (now over 25 years ago). But due to the lack of new features and no customer service, as well as my getting tired of the constant updates and bugs, and its somewhat uncertain future — unfortunately, it's time for me to say. Oct 16, 2016 Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Quicken For Mac 2017 Personal Finance & Budgeting Software Mac Download (Old Version) at Amazon.com. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users. If you've manually entered transactions, Quicken automatically matches those transactions with their corresponding downloaded transactions so you don't end up with duplicates. If you do not use this option all downloaded transactions must be manually reviewed and accepted before they are added to your investment transaction lists.

Again, this is nothing if not frustrating.. I manually entered a payment that I scheduled on the Amex website - the date in Quicken was the date entered, not the date scheduled. Now that the transaction downloaded - Quicken didn't recognize the manually entered transaction. Now, I have two transactions - one I entered, and one that was downloaded.
In the Windows version - I could manually match the transaction in this type of situation. How do I do this in the Mac version?
This is turning into a deal breaker. I'm seriously at the point of reverting back to Windows, or considering switching to Banktivity. In either case, I would expect a full refund on the Mac version,
If the software was 100% accurate 100% of the time - that's one thing. But it's not - so I need a way to make manual corrections. A simple, intuitive, easy to follow way. Exactly what you have in the Windows version for dealing with downloads.
After switching and finding the Mac version less than stellar Having now googled questions about the Mac version - it's interesting to see the number of comments, posts, etc. about how the Mac version has always lagged behind the Windows version and the amount of negative sentiment towards the Mac version.

have same issue as well as paying bills through Chase site. If i schedule to pay bill on the 20th and chase sends payment out of the 15th the transaction downloads but doesn't match to what i have entered as payment on the 20th.

You may need to enter the manual transaction on the 15th to get it to match.

Can I ask a dumb question? If you schedule a bill on the 20th, how does Chase send the payment on the 15th?
    Just wondering.

Some banks debit the account when the payment is sent. Some banks don't debit the account until the payment is actually cashed. (My bank, Citizens Bank is in the latter category.)
When you look at the calendar when making a Direct Debit online payment, it shows a Debit Date in gray and a Pay Date in blue. The Pay Date is the date that gets entered in the register and is the date that the merchant is expected to receive the payment. The Debit Date may or may not be the date that the accounts get debited, again, depending on the bank.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can change the date while the payment is pending. After the payment is cleared, the date is locked in the register.
You may want to check the option in menu Quicken > Preferences > Connected Services to use the posted date in the register:

the clean up payees option what does that do?

I think that it improves the payee names if you download transactions without matched to previously manually entered transactions. I generally manually enter everything before downloading, so I don't think it really matters in that case. But I have it turned off because I think it *may* improve the matching with it off. Just seems that way to me, no real evidence.
Maybe others will chime in if they have more detailed info on what that option does.

'Clean up payees' is a form of crowd sourcing. It compares the payee as sent from the financial institution and sees how the Intuit Mint users have been renaming it, and it suggests the most common rename. This is the same approach used for the auto suggestion of categories as your bank doesn't provide that info.
The accuracy is only as good as the people renaming things.

Thanks for reminding me of that explanation John. I remember everything I have seen before, except some things. :-)
This might explain why in my usage, things work better with it off..because.. with crowd sourcing, the cleaned up name could change over time. And that could cause what used to match to not match anymore. If the name remains that static info sent from the bank, then it would always be matching against the same payee text. Just a theory.

Good grief this has been driving me crazy for quite some time, I finally bothered to research it, the drop and drag works great, but it could be a little more obvious, it really needs to be an option on the menu, I would never have guessed this. Thanks for posting this
